It was a beautiful day for being outdoors, though a wee bit hot when not in the shade.  I am a big user of sunscreen, and coated Hannah with it before she got dressed this morning.  Then got myself ready.  We had lots of time outside today, so I was pretty good about re-applying sunscreen to her has needed.  For the second time in her life, I managed to miss a couple of little spots on her shoulders and she got a tiny couple of pink strips.  The first time was last year on the side of her nose about the size of a pea.

However, I totally forgot to put any sunscreen on my legs.  I even remembered to re-apply on my arms but never thought about my legs.  I did get sunburn on my legs, really good on the back sides especially behind the knees and a bit on the backs of my arms.  I hope that after applying the after-burn care several times tonight, that it won’t be so bad tomorrow.  Sean came out for a little while this afternoon and also managed to get a sunburn on his shoulders, neck and face.  He was only out an 1.5 hours but he isn’t known for being the sunscreen user in the family no matter how much I nag about it, so truly he has no one to blame but himself.

We are suppose to get some rain Saturday but Sunday looks like it will be beautiful.

I didn’t get any stitching done tonight, after spending so much time out in the sun this week, it has caught up with me and I have been nursing a bit of a headache.  So, my plans are to finish up the stitching on the end of the year gift and maybe make some progress on something else this weekend.

Hannah’s favorite part of field day…Water Play Event…and getting soaked by the hose

We had a lovely holiday weekend.  On Friday while Hannah was in school, Sean and I went to see the new Indy movie.  It was good, but I wouldn’t say my favorite of them.  We are really looking forward to Kung Fu Panda coming out next week.

On Saturday we grilled BBQ Chicken and had margaritas on the patio…Yum!  The night before we went to Longhorn were I had my second margarita ever and it was so good, we made them ourselves.  We also hooked up and tested out the new Wii Fit.  What fun!

I have been doing some yoga with it everyday and some of the other fitness options, too.  Sunday was another beautiful day so while Sean watched the Indy 500 and NASCAR on TV Hannah and I headed to the park and met some friends.  Monday we grilled again…Ribs…and as much as I like to cook I have never made Potato Salad before, but did Sunday night to have with our ribs.  Sean said that he loved them.  Oh, and the grilled chicken was really good, too.

Tuesday was a long day.  First I volunteered my usual morning in Hannah’s class, then we went on a field trip to a nature center.  Then after school, I cooked an early dinner and headed back to the school for the choir concert & PTA meeting while Sean took Hannah to Tae Kwon Do.

Yesterday I worked in the yard for a good 3.5 hours and again today for 2.5 hours.  I still have tons to do.  Re-mulching mostly.  But I also want to plant some flowers and I have more weeds to pull…again already.  What is up with that?  Why can’t I get the grass to grow like our weeds?  But it is looking better after cleaning up the winter mess.

Tomorrow is Field Day at school.  Hannah is excited and I usually spend the day with her class…hey, at the end of the day, I get a freeze pop which makes a long day in the sun well worth it.  :0)

And I have been stitching.  I am <> this close to finishing the end of the year gift.  I am either going to frame it myself or finish it like a pin keep.

My eye hurts!

Today I got up and decided that since it wasn’t raining as forecasted I would drop Hannah off at school then come home, walk the dogs, and do some yard work.  I didn’t get as much done as I had hoped but at least something got done.  However, I managed to poke myself in the eye with a tree branch when reaching to pull some weeds and pick up some fallen leaves.  Don’t ask but if I can injury myself, I will.  I don’t think it is to badly hurt, and didn’t really hurt most of the day after the first few minutes, but it is starting to hurt a bit now.  I can see fine and it doesn’t appear red or anything.

I am staying in tomorrow and cleaning the house.  Hopefully, I won’t be injuring any major body parts in the process.  I also need to go grocery shopping and bake a belated birthday cake for Sean.  Since he was gone on his birthday and all.  He will be home early Friday.  We are going to have a lovely weekend weather-wise and I can’t wait.  It is going to be perfect weather and we plan on grilling out a couple of times.

In my stitching…I haven’t been getting much done and I really need to get off my tush.  I am stitching the ruler on the design and it is becoming boring, just a big long block of color.

It has been a pretty nice weekend.  Sean and I went out for breakfast on Friday and then decided to head over to the outlets.  I dropped him home then picked up Hannah from school.  We stopped and brought home a pizza.  Saturday morning we got up early and headed over to see Prince Caspian.  It was very good.  Can’t wait to add it to the DVD collection.  We got some Italian Ice on the way home and when we did I decided to take a short nap.  We then went out for an early dinner to celebrate Sean’s birthday.  We watched Cloverfield and Untraceable after Hannah went to bed.  Not sure about Cloverfield but I thought Untraceable was good.

We missed church this morning.  No one got up before 8:30 am.  Very unlike us.  But we did get ready and head over to Panera then Wal mart for a few things.  I totally lost my temper at Panera after we placed our order and the girl told us our total, I was like for what.  Hannah gets the yogurt tubes when we go there and we are usually charged $.79 each.  And the girl says "Well, you got two yogurts for $4.98."  And of course I am like no, no, no, for yogurt tubes?  She is all attitude and says "yes" so I am getting hot and say that we are usually charged $.79 for a tube.  "Well, you have been charged wrong in the past."  For the last two years?  "Yes" she says as she walks off.  So, I said to Sean that it was ridiculous.  And asked to speak with the manager.  It turns out that the yogurt is only $.79!  So I am embarrassed about getting so angry over yogurt tubes, I mean I didn’t need to get that upset.  But at the same time, it isn’t right to overcharge people.  I understand about mark up, but I can buy a box of yogurt tubes for $5.  I guess we shouldn’t have skipped church either seems if I am going to get that upset of some yogurt I could have used services more then usual today.

Sean is out of town this week.  He left late this afternoon and will be back on Friday morning…early since he is taking the red-eye back home.  His birthday is tomorrow, so he is a little sad about being gone for that, but we got him Bose noise reduction headphones (will be great on the plane) and an xBox game.

I have been stitching, on the end of the year teacher gift.  I am really hoping to get it finished this week.

Happy Mother’s Day

This morning my sweet daughter and loving husband woke me up a little early for church so that Hannah could give me a Mother’s Day Present…

A Digital Picture Frame…pre-loaded with the following slide show…

Happy Mother’s Day 2008

(I don’t like how webshots has the pictures moving because you are unable to see the captions)

Hannah also made a gift in Sunday School that I love and a picture of a flower pot in school which reads "Mom, Gives Kisses and hugs, everyday, everywhere, she loves me".

Early this afternoon Sean declared that since tomorrow is Mother’s Day that he would cook dinner tonight.  And clean up!  He made a simple dinner…Garlic Chicken from Bird’s Eye and was much tastier than either of us thought it would be.  He also decided to bake a cake.  WoW!  And tomorrow Sean and Hannah will be taking me out for dinner.  Aren’t they sweet?  Sean also insisted that I sleep in today, which I did until very late.  They rest of the day has been spent watching The Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy.

Yesterday, Sean and I spent time together.  We went to see "Iron Man".  This movie was so good.  I wanted to see it but would have been happy to wait for it to come out on DVD.  I am so glad we didn’t wait.  It was great!  We can’t wait until it comes out on DVD.  After the movie we went to Cracker Barrel and had Strawberry Shortcake…Yummy!…and coffee.  Then we wandered around Target until it was time to pick Hannah up.

After school, Hannah and I spent a little mother/daughter time getting a mani/pedi.  Nice and relaxing.  Now our feeties are ready for spring and summer foot wear.

Not much to report still on the stitching front.  I spent a little time on the end of the year teacher’s gift.  And will pull it out sometime this evening…if I ever get off the computer that is.

It is my greatest joy being a mother and I can’t remember life before.  A Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers of the world.

I haven’t stitched since this weekend.  It is National Teacher Appreciation Week and as the PTA’s Hospitality Chairperson, this is my biggest week.  Hospitality does a few other things during the year, but this is the biggest.  Well, at least in my opinion.  We have a wonderful teachers and staff team at Hannah’s school and it is very important for me to do what I can to show them how much we appreciate them.  Teachers are a big influence in the lives of our kids and they give so much of themselves, I wish I was able to do more for them.

Monday the parents provided breakfast and on Wednesday the PTA provided a pizza lunch.  Tuesday we put thank you cards in their mailboxes that the VP of the PTA and I made up.  Her idea, Sean helped design them and they came out pretty neat.  Today they got another little surprise thanks to our local Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop…a key chain card that entitles them to a 10% discount every time they go for the next year.  And it is good at any Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop.

Tomorrow they will have one more little gift to complete the week…A key chain that is shaped like an apple and is engraved with "Together We Make Our School A Success".  I hope that they like them.  I try to get something other than the usual coffee mug.  Now don’t get me wrong, I love coffee mugs, but how many does one person really need?  And I know teachers get the gift of a mug often…I know because I have given them.  :0)

Again this year, our VP of PTA who just so happens to be a certified massage therapist, provided chair massages on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  I believe this is the staffs’ favorite part of the week.

So I haven’t gotten any stitching done this week…yet…As I have been spending a lot time at the school since Tuesday was also my usual volunteer day.  But I have to say, it has been worth it.  But I am hoping that with the forecasted weekend of rain, I manage to make up some time and get some stitching done on the end of the year teacher’s gift.

May Goals

I haven’t posted my goals yet this month, and even thought about not making any this month, but decided I would just keep it short and sweet.

  1. Stitch on Circus of Circles
  2. Stitch on My Sunshine by La D Da
  3. Stitch on and finish the teacher’s end of year gift

At the end of the month, Sean and I will have own this house for nine years.  We have made a few changes to it.  We replaced the water heater, the heat pump, converted the screen in porch to a three season sunroom, re-sided, two summers ago we had two trees taken out of the yard, and last year had the landscaping re-done around the front of the house and put in the patio with retaining wall in the backyard.  There has been this little tiny tree back there since we moved in.  This is the first year it has looked like this.

   Close up of the blooms…beautiful.

Sadly, I think this year we are going to have to take out another tree…my favorite too.  It usually blooms with these big pink flowers but hasn’t done a thing this year yet.  All the others in the neighborhood like it have and are mostly done shredding them with the leaves having filled in the branches.  You can just see it in the corner of the little tree picture.
