Works in Progress

Sean and I went to see The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo.  Great movie!!  I had planned on reading the books, but never got around to it.  Usually if I see a movie before I read a book… I don’t read the book.  However, I am still interested in reading this book.  I have heard it is very hard to get into the book but once you do it is pretty good.

Not much has really been going on around here.  Same old, different day and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  Sean says I don’t like change.

I thought it was time for an update of my WIPS…

First up, is the L*K’s  Going Green Flip-its.

Next is my L*K’s  A Good Marriage.  I only got three days on this one last week since Monday was a holiday and Sean works from home on Fridays.  I tried to make up for it today.  I also started using the Dried Thyme in place of the Hickory Sticks (the skeins I received in my kit were to close to the Cocoa Bean).

First finish of 2012

It took just a little longer than I hoped, but I finished the Bent Creek’s Peapod Baby Sampler for a friend who daughter was due February 4th but came a little earlier.   My friend was a wonderful teacher to my own daughter for two years… first and third grade and I think she is going to be a most excellent mother.

Show and tell

I am working on L*K’s A Good Marriage as much as I can while Sean is at work.  I am even neglecting my house chores.  :0)  We have a three-day weekend coming up that means I won’t  be able to stitch on it after today.  But maybe I will actually get the birth announcement I was working on finished this weekend.

Here is my progress so far on the L*K piece…

Creative Changes

So I have been stitching away on L*K’s A Good Marriage and really enjoying it.  However, I noticed that two of the colors are very similar.  To me there isn’t much difference in the shades, though maybe others see it.  This happened to me when I was stitching One Hundred Years.

So I started thinking that because the colors look so much alike, I am going to substitute one of the browns for a green.  I am thinking of using Dried Thyme if I can find some extra around here.  Or is it just me?

A little progress

I started L*K’s A Good Marriage on Tuesday 1/3 and have been trying to get at least a 30 minute stitching session in while Sean is at work.  I also had a stitching day with my friends on Saturday and was able to stitch on this then.

A few WIPS

So, here are the progress photos on my current projects.

L*K A Good Marriage ~ Ready to start

L*K Going Green FlipIts

Bent Creek’s Peapod Baby Sampler
So my goal is to try really, really, really hard to stitch on A Good Marriage at least 30 minutes a day while Sean is at work.  Sometimes this is hard to do, because I am busy and things come up.  I was determined to start it today and get a little bit done, and even though I was stressed trying to get stuff done so I could before Sean got home, I did actually start it.  :0)

I don’t want to make resolutions because let’s be honest… they are rarely kept.  However, in the new year there are things I hope to do better.  And there are things I want to do for myself, either for my physical health or mental health.  So where shall I begin….?

  • I love being a stay at home mom, but let us face the truth head on… I am not a great housekeeper.  Don’t get me wrong, our house isn’t a pigsty but I wouldn’t recommend eating off the kitchen floor.  Though I do allow my three dogs to do so.  My point here, I want to be a better housekeeper.  Have a weekly schedule and stick to it now matter what.  My biggest area of slacking… dusting!
  • I want to be a better mother, wife and friend.
  • I want to be better about taking my vitamins.  Last October I had to start taking a medication for my thyroid and I have yet to forget to take a dose.  So why shouldn’t I be able to take my vitamins??
  • I want to work out 5-6 times a week.  I have done this for three years now, but during the last few months I haven’t been as strict with it as I would like.  Usually the last couple of weeks of the year, I slack off.  So I want to get back on schedule with that.
  • I would like to start eating better.  Again, the last few months…. well, it was the holidays.
  • I would like to lose five to ten pounds, but would be pleased if I just maintain my current weight.  So with that said… I would also like to accept myself, outwards appearance and all and stop being so hard on myself.
  • I love reading and don’t read nearly as much as I use to.  There was a time I read several books a week and now I am lucky to read a few books a year.  I have tons of books… paperback, hardback, Kindle and Nook books… so it is time to read them!  I challenged myself on my GoodReads account to read 20 books this year.  I know it doesn’t sound like a lot considering my 11 year reads about 100 (maybe more) books a year but last year I read about 10 so that would be double if I did read the 20.  (And I have already finished one book and started a second this year!)
  • Stitching… Yes I would like to stitch more.  And I have several projects that I have started and would like to finish.  Plus I have a few that I would like to start and actually finish.  But let’s be real.  I have made a list of projects to stitch in a year and I have a problem… I am a slow stitcher and I have never made a dent in a list I have made before.  So this year lets keep it simple.
  1. Finish stitching the L*K Going Green Flip-its
  2. Finish stitching the Bent Creek Baby Peapod Birth Sampler
  3. Finish Stitching the Advent Tree from Hobb Nobb
  4. Finish Stitching Hana’s Spots
  5. Stitch on And They Sinned… it’s been a long while since I put a stitch in this one.
  6. Start and finish L*K’s A Good Marriage… in secret! as a gift for our 15th anniversary

So, I am sure I forgot something… but I can amend it later I guess.  I am also sure that I will end up stitching a few other things, but hopefully will actually accomplish the above list as well.
