Another day, Another year

Well, it’s almost the new year…again.  Didn’t we just ring in a new year? Time just keeps going by faster with each day.  Recently I started wondering if I achieved the goals I set for myself at the beginning of this year.  So I looked back at a post to see how I did…

Stitch more ~ I haven’t been stitching much and I really miss it ~~~ Well, I stitched but I wouldn’t say I stitched more.  Days go by between stitching sessions.

Read more ~ I didn’t read the 20 books I had hoped, but I did read 16 last year ~~~ I read this year, but still didn’t reach 20 books.  I read just 14 books this year.  My favorite book was The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate.  It is in my top favorite books ever.

Complete the Tinker Bell Half Marathon on January 20th ~ That is right around the corner.  I’m looking forward to doing this but not sure how I feel yet about continuing to run afterwards ~~~ I completed the half and before I even ran it, signed up for another and then signed up for a third! What? Yes, I ran three half marathons this year.  I also ran a 10 miler, a 10K and a 5 miler, signed up for the Tinker Bell Half again with a 10K (a new race the day before the half) and signed up the Princess Half with a 10K (a new race the day before the half) called the Glass Slipper Challenge.  Oddly, I am still not sure how I feel about running.  I don’t really like it.  But do like the way I feel after I run and really like how I feel when I get that medal.

Exercise 5-6 days a week ~ Lately, I’ve mostly been running for exercise but want to get back into more strength training again. I received the Jillian Michaels Revolution 90 day program and I would like to start & finish it following the program as closely as possible ~~~ I do work out 5-6 days a week… most of the time, but then there are times that I miss a day here and there.  I also completed the 90 Day Body Revolution.  It was a really good program and I didn’t get bored with it at all.  I am even considering doing it again.

Lose 10-12 lbs ~~~ LOL Well, this didn’t happen, but I also didn’t gain weight so I am happy with that.

Keep house better ~ I use to work on a pretty good schedule that I fell out of and have been failing at getting back on track ~~~ I do well, then not, then get back on track again.

Have better eating habits ~~~ Some days I am good, others not so much.

Try new recipes ~ I like to cook so this isn’t to hard to do. Now if only I could get my family willing to try things they think they don’t like ~~~ I’ve tried a few here and there, thankfully because I friends that have different taste than my hubby and kid, so since we have lunch together about once a month I have been able to try a few new recipes.  Only very few new recipes with the family.

Continue gardening ~ I need to re-plant my herb garden and annuals.  I really enjoyed gardening last year and I am looking forward to getting my hands in the soil again~~~ I did plant this year, but it wasn’t a huge success, but once again looking forward to the spring and getting my hands dirty.

I haven’t really given any thoughts to 2014.  Pretty much the same thing as this year.  I am not going to set goals or make resolutions this year.  What I hope to do is live life to it’s fullest, stay healthy, love my family and friends.

Just a few more days

Just a few more days and it will all be over.  Weeks, months preparing and it will all be over within hours.  The tree is up and decorated, gift shopping is done, wrapping will be tonight, food shopping tomorrow and cookies were baked earlier today. I only made three different cookies this year.  Sean wanted Belly Buttons, Hannah requested Sugar and Chocolate Chip Cookies.  I wasn’t paying attention and put in to much sugar in the chocolate chip cookie batter.  They taste fine but spread out more than usual and are crunchy instead of puffy & soft.  I plan on making the sugar cookies again sometime, but was thinking of adding some lemon to them next time.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Today the results shows that I finished 1511 out of 2952 (yesterday it was 1488) but my time didn’t change.  I ran the five miles in 48:40 which was not to shabby for me.  I did start out pretty slowly, partly because the race starts with you running uphill, it was cold and narrow path making it crowded and hard to break away from the pack.  But in the end I finished with my fastest end to a race… thanks to the downhill finish and Wendy’s encouragement…. and one of my fastest miles to date, a finish of 9:02 at the end. I usually get much slower during a run, so it was nice to finish strong.

Forgotten frame

Earlier this year. I found this frame among my stitching stuff but for the life of me I couldn’t remember what it was for so I took it with me to my friend’s house to see if my stitching buddies might remember.  Sadly they couldn’t recall either. 20131205-114145.jpg

When we were re-doing the office/craft room into the fitness room, I had pulled out a lot of my stitching things to go through.  Of course the frame popped up but I still didn’t know what it went to.  Then I found these kits and connected the dots.  The frame and kits go together!

And yes, I realize that I should have taken the photos again so that my shadow was not covering it.
